Hi, I’m Sarah Lockyer, nutrition and eating disorder therapist.
My mission is to help every client have a peaceful relationship with food, to feel happy and nourished, to feel comfortable within their own skin.
My Qualifications
A Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity, I am experienced in working with all forms of eating disorders with or without diagnosis, disordered eating and eating distress.
I am a fully qualified and experienced nutritional therapist, with diplomas in both clinical and naturopathic nutritional therapy.
With a BSc(Hons) in Psychology and further training in the counselling fields of CBT, DBT, ACT and CFT, I also have diplomas in counselling skills, anatomy and physiology, reiki healing and reflexology.
I am also a qualified, experienced teacher with university training in autism. I draw upon this training in practice with clients presenting with selective food disorder and restrictive and avoidant eating behaviours.
How I Work
I currently work in private practice, offering sessions to anyone who feels they have a dysfunctional relationship with food and struggles with food associated emotional issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem and poor body image. I also offer sessions to parents and carers of those in ‘eating distress’.
My approach is client-centred, focusing on the person as a unique individual with their own story to tell and therefore therapy is adapted to suit the personal, specific needs and wants of the client. Therapy is an holistic process, offered through a combination of nutritional and psychological interventions.
As a trained Third Wave CBT Therapist, approaches I offer include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness. These disciplines are proven, evidence-based therapies for the successful treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating, as well as other emotional and physiological health conditions.
Third Wave Therapy is a movement away from the cognitive focus on what we think and feel and towards a focus on how we relate to what we think we feel.
